Lwoff's Scheme
Invented by Lwoff, RW Horne and P Tournier in 1962, the Lwoff's Scheme is a classification for viruses based on the shared physical properties of the viruses themselves instead of those of their host.Such physical properties include:
- Nucleic acid of virus
- Symmetry of capsid
- Presence or absence of envelope
- Dimensions of virion and capsid
It forms the basis of ICTV classification but ICTV is more comprehensive.
